Classrooms
In 2013 Rapaura School is enjoying the benefits of a growing roll and has 6 classrooms established. The classrooms are light and airy, and equipped with air conditioning units for optimum comfort. A regular maintenance programme and prudent use of capital funding ensures our classrooms provide a modern learning environment and are compatible with e-learning requirements, including a large pod of laptops.

Multi-Purpose Room
The Multi-Purpose Room is located in the Library building. It has a full kitchen for cooking and baking projects. It is big enough to hold our Monday and Wednesday morning gatherings, our Friday community assemblies and is often used as a rehearsal room for dancing, singing and skits, and for board meetings and professional development seminars. The bi-fold doors open onto the library which means we can comfortably invite our wider community to special events such as visiting authors and touring groups.

Library
Our library is a vibrant, well-used and staffed facility. It is open to students all day, every day. We hold over 4000 titles and have two search computers, a main issuing computer and the staff resource room. Each class has scheduled weekly sessions in the library for research and recreational purposes. Student librarians have the responsibility of keeping the library neat, tidy and properly shelved. Younger siblings (including babies) of Rapaura students are encouraged to use the library and are issued with their own cards. Swimming Pool
At Rapaura we are committed to providing a comprehensive swimming programme in our own pool. The school’s solar-heated 20 metre swimming pool enables us to offer daily swimming lessons in Term 1 and Term 4 and a fun swim each lunch hour. The pool is also open to our community to use during weekends, holidays and after school.

Our Grounds
Rapaura School is very fortunate to be situated in such a beautiful setting. Our children enjoy a range of playgrounds including a sandpit, a large grassy play area, a court area (for tennis, netball, skipping, basketball, and pavement chalk art) and a rugby field. Our large timber-framed adventure playground was upgraded in 2011 to better cater for our students’ fitness and physical development needs. Cool verandas and a canopy of trees provide shade from the Marlborough sun. During rainy days the children spend their free time in the classrooms, library and multi-purpose room.

Vegetable Garden/Fruit Trees
As part of our environmental awareness programme, sustainable vegetable gardens and a citrus tree grove have been established. A native garden planted in May 2011 has further enhanced our surroundings.

Rapaura Hall
“Over in the hall” is a common phrase used around the school. The Rapaura District has had a hall since 1907 and the present hall has been across from the school since 1964. Thanks to the excellent efforts of past Rapaura community families and fundraisers our school is able to hold gymnastics, sports practises, Spring Show stalls and other gatherings “over in the hall”.

School Bus/Taxi Service
With more than half our children coming from out of the Rapaura zone we offer different transportation options for parents including car pooling, a Ministry-funded bus service and a subsidised taxi option. One of the mini-vans delivers students to OSCAR, the after-school programme.
