Mountain biking ace Liv Bishop rounded off a highly-successful 12 months when she was named Sportsperson of the Year at the annual Marlborough Girls’ College sports prizegiving evening at the college on Thursday.

Bishop enjoyed success at home and abroad on a variety of testing tracks. Her pinnacle event was the world championships in Australia where she competed strongly in the demanding under-19 section. She competed in Europe as part of a New Zealand junior team, plus rode at the Oceania champs and the Australian nationals where she picked up third placings. Nationally she placed second in the under-20 girls category at the NZ secondary schools champs, second in the junior women at the National cross country champs as well as taking out the Tasman schools title.
