Matariki at Rapaura School

What a special day we had today as we started with shared kai.  A big thank you to the community for coming along to acknowledge Matariki and I truly sense a real shift of the understanding of Matariki amongst the students which is a true credit to them all whereas two years ago, when we introduced Matariki the understanding was very small.  Following breakfast we farewelled 24 students to participate in the Small Sticks Hockey Festival.

The day continued, with a smaller group of children and each child choosing activities throughout the day.  One activity was the game – Taniwa (and thanks to Rhys, Riley, Gus and Will for leading today), another a technology challenge whereby the students had to create the highest symbol of Matariki and the third activity was decorating feathers of the things/people/places that are special to you.  The feathers will be brought together to form a korowai.

A big thank you to the team of staff for bringing the resources and ideas together to create a great day.
